OVERVIEW This key role is responsible for managing the annual audit process, on-going accounting processes, financial software, developing accounting standards, tax compliance, overseeing major accounting functions, assisting with tracking budget expenses, and analyzing financial information. This full-time position reports to the Director of Finance and is remote. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Maintains the accounting systems to ensure the integrity of the data Acts as "power user" in the accounting system; providing support and training for accounting staff. Assists in recommending and developing internal control guidelines, policies and procedures for cash and credit management as well as internal control policies. Monitors overall reservation revenue; ensuring accurate receipt of funds and reconciling related accounts. Provides Director of Finance with status of financial condition by collecting financial data and preparing financial reports Assists with Preparing Critical Insurance Renewal Documentation & Other Annual Reporting Processes Assists with Supplementary Schedules for Annual Audit and 990 Preparation Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits; providing information to external auditors Supports financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls to include the oversight and maintenance of accurate accounting records Supports Director of Finance in preparation of budgets by establishing schedules; collecting and consolidating financial data Supports achievement of budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; providing Director of Finance with data used in analyzing variances; and initiating corrective actions Provides recommendations and assists in designs of any new subsidiary ledgers Oversees the month end closing process along with Accounting Manager including the preparation and oversight of data entry of journal entries, as well as being second approval on critical processes. Engages actively in learning various systems and leads troubleshooting efforts associated with these systems. Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential Maintains accounting staff job results by training, planning, monitoring performance, and providing Director of Finance with appraisal of job results QUALIFICATIONS Minimum five years of continuous accounting experience with a focus on general ledger and financial reporting Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance is required Thorough understanding of GAAP and internal controls Non-profit / fund accounting experience preferred Proficient with MS Excel and various other technologies Effective problem solving and analytical skills. Ability to identify trends and relationships within accounting data Resourceful, high level of initiative and strong work ethic. Ability to work with minimum supervision and set priorities Willingness and ability to work collaboratively with all team members, cross train in other accounting roles, and assist others at all levels of the organization Good verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain cooperative working relationships Ability to maintain professionalism and exercise strict confidentiality FLEXIBILITY Esalen functions best when all staff work toward the common mission of encouraging everyone to reach our highest human potential.
