Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System -- Surgery Management Full Time , Days Posted 02/10/2021 The Director has primary responsibility for leading, controlling, planning, organizing and evaluating the timely, effective and efficient delivery of the department's operations on a 24-hour basis. Through the incorporation of the Hospital's goals and objectives, this position is responsible for ensuring that the department performs to the highest possible standard within the resources made available, thus ensuring the delivery of compassionate quality care and service to patients, staff and visitors. The Director acts as a role model, has accountability for the departmental budget and Position Control, ensures the consistent application of the Hospital's policies and procedures and fosters teamwork within and between areas of responsibility. The Director is also responsible for promoting specialized knowledge and skills through the support of staff education and professional development. 1. Education: Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) required. Master's degree strongly preferred. 2. Licenses: Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. 3. Experience/Knowledge: 3-5 years surgical and managerial experience in an acute care hospital required. Experience in open-heart/cardiovascular, neuro and robotics required. Demonstrated expertise in LEAN/Process Improvement and inventory management preferred. Proven expertise in building teams, holding staff accountable to performance expectations. Proven track record of team building and developing collaborative relationships with physicians, surgeons, anesthesia providers, staff and the community. Proven record of building surgical/procedure volumes and skilled in developing business cases to support growth needs. Substantial knowledge of:

• Current perioperative, recovery, infection control and ambulatory care principles, theories, and practices.
• Laws, regulations, and hospital guidelines pertaining to professional nursing care of patients. Identifying, analyzing and resolving perioperative, post sedation, endoscopic, and ambulatory patient care issues.
  • Association of Operating Registered Nursing (AORN) guidelines and recommendations.
  • Specific Duties: Serves as a resource and role model to staff regarding operating and recovery room, endoscopy and short-stay outpatient practices and procedures. Plans, organizes, directs, leads and evaluates the delivery of care in the operating room, post anesthesia recovery unit (PACU), Out Patient Services (OPS) and Endoscopy services. Supports above in collaborations with Perioperative RN nurse leader.
    • Management Skills -- Budgetary preparation, monitoring and control -- Management and supervisory theories, principles, practices, techniques and methods -- Ability to identify and analyze complex perioperative, post sedation, endoscopic and ambulatory patient care issues (Nursing Directors)
      • Interpersonal Skills: -- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing to diverse groups and individuals Work effectively with administration, employees and medical staff -- Identify and analyze complex departmental (and patient care) issues -- Make independent decisions and provide counsel and advice to administration, employees and medical staff -- Exercise good judgement and tact in providing leadership, guidance and assistance -- Demonstrates ability to work collaborative with Perioperative RN leader.
