Director, FSQA Operations Tracking Code 975-990 Job Description GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Director FSQA Operations or Supply Chain will create, implement and maintain a world class end-to-end quality assurance and food safety system within DFC, thereby promoting our business, and protecting our customers and brand, by ensuring only high quality and safe food is delivered to customers. The position requires an in-depth understanding of and proactive involvement in each step of the supply chain and operations, together with the technical knowledge and critical thinking abilities to enhance the quality and safety of the final product to prevent or eliminate the potential for food safety issues. The position has the primary responsibility for driving and managing quality and food safety systems from field to plate, at all of the plants and field operations by developing, modifying, and maintaining the company's quality and food safety management system, and all associated programs, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all corporate requirements and federal/state regulations for the production of safe and wholesome product. This position also will lead food recall and food crisis management processes, to investigate all food borne illness/injury claims; and liaise with public relations, risk and legal teams. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION: * Assure that regulatory and auditing programs (HARPC, GFSI, SOP/SSOP's) are implemented, understood, routinely assessed, improved upon and well-maintained in all field and processing locations. * Assure that GMPs, quality/food safety standards, recall, and crisis procedures are understood, instilled at all levels of employment and monitored throughout all areas of all facilities. * Assure that microbial programs are implemented, routinely assessed, improved upon and well-maintained. These programs include but are not limited to: soil testing, agricultural water testing, preharvest tissue testing, environmental monitoring, other pathogen testing as appropriate, wash water assessments and process innovation. * Oversee the coordination of external and internal quality/food safety audits for the facility. * Sponsor cross-functional teams to drive selected quality or food safety programs. Examples include: 'grower meetings', 'weekly calls with Ag Ops', 'monthly food safety facility inspections', 'routine glass and plastic inspection', 'HARPC team meetings', 'Food Safety Committee', and 'Customer/Consumer Complaints'. * Oversee the training and ongoing development of staff, specific to food safety and quality. * Travel as needed to growers, DFC sites, vendors, suppliers, co-packers and customers. * Maintain KPI's related to food safety and quality, and internal and external audits * Oversee the coordination of and assure conformance to food safety standards recognized as equivalent to the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) benchmark requirements. * Mentor and coach employees to foster the team spirit. * Oversee compliance with organic standards, both internally and externally, as appropriate * Oversee compliance with Kosher standards, both internally and externally, as appropriate * Oversee programmatic management of sanitation programs * Drive continuous improvement by establishing feedback loops, leveraging data and implementing innovative new programs/practices. * Other duties as assigned Required Skills SKILLS: * Advanced formal training and minimum of bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Chemistry, Food Analysis, Food Processing or Microbiology * Strong planning and organization skills * Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills * Ability to conduct risk assessments, write and implement risk-based food safety management programs * Good problem solving and corrective action/resolution skills * Understand complaint database, EtQ, blockchain and other Dole systems as needed * Ability to manage a multidisciplinary team, covering food quality, sanitation, and safety at the growing, manufacturing, food processing levels, with a focus on continuous improvement * Ability to manage and lead through a dynamic and changing business landscape, supporting the team with change management * Demonstrate highly-developed communication skills, written and verbal. Ability to clearly understand, author and communicate highly technical subjects * Be able to make rapid, accurate decisions on issues of food quality and safety * Strong skills using Microsoft Windows and Office Suite of applications (Word, Excel, Access, Internet Explorer and PowerPoint, Project and Visio) to aid in the effective communication of findings, conclusions and recommendations to business management. * Self-starter, ability to learn and adapt quickly. Highly motivated. Committed to see problems through to resolution even beyond normal working hours. * Consumer Packaged Goods, Agriculture, or Food industry experience. * Foreign Language(s): Spanish desired but not required. * Ability to travel as Required Experience EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION: * A minimum of 10 years' management and implementation FSQA programs in a progressive environment * Bachelor's Food Safety, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, or other related field and at least 5-8 years' experience in the food industry.
