Job Description:

LiMPETS (Long-term Monitoring Program and Experiential Training for Students) is an educational citizen science program. The primary role of the LiMPETS Program Coordinator is to aid the LiMPETS Manager in the implementation of this program and to provide high quality informal and outdoor science educational experiences for students. The LiMPETS Program Coordinator will also be responsible for other duties in support of the statewide LiMPETS Network.Duties include, but are not limited to the following:Conduct in-class training with school groups to prepare them for species identification, rigorous data collection protocolOversee school groups as they collect data during their field trips to the rocky intertidal and sandy beach ecosystemsPerform quality assurance and quality control checks on student collected dataProvide support for teachers as they prepare for field trips and conduct post-field trip lessons with their classesAdminister and analyze student and teacher evaluationsWork with the LiMPETS Manager to:Recruit and train new teachersMaintain and update the LiMPETS website, databases, and curriculum materialsManage meetings and projects with the LiMPETS Science Advisory PanelParticipate in monthly meetings with statewide LiMPETS NetworkPerform related duties and responsibilities as requiredQualificationsEducation and Experience:A Master's in Education, Marine Science, Environmental Science, Conservation, Biology or related fields and at least 3 years of work experience in citizen science, environmental education, and/or interpretation desired. Candidates with a Bachelor's in related fields and at least 5 years of work experience will be considered. Teaching credential a plus.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Experience with environmental education and citizen science program development and coordinationEffective classroom and group management strategiesStrong organizational and communication skillsExcellent public speaking skills and willingness to present to a variety of audiencesAbility to work independently and as part of a teamKnowledge and experience in using computers and software including Word, PowerPoint or Prezi, and Excel, Database and/or website management experience a plus.Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as neededAbility to move through a variety of terrains, including sand and rocky tide poolsCapability to work in a variety of temperature and weather conditionsLicenses:Possession of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. First Aid and CPR certification a plusPhysical ConditionsEssential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing or sitting for extended periods and moderate lifting. The position requires the need to lift items weighing up to 40 pounds.Terms of EmploymentThis position will be full time at 40 hours a week. Salary commensurate with experience.
