Experience as a Director in HIM Strongly Preferred # The Director of Health Information Management (HIM) reports to the Privacy Officer and has overall accountability and responsibility for managing all aspects of the HIM department. This includes, but is not limited to, directing and planning all department functions such as: managing and monitoring productivity of all HIM staff; ensuring a high level of quality and accuracy in work produced by department; and overseeing privacy compliance. This position is responsible for managing the hospital#s electronic health records, promoting performance improvement and overseeing implementation and management of Hospital#s information management related software. Manages processes for assuring medical records and related health information are collected, analyzed, and maintained in an accurate and secure manner. Continuous communication with the Director of HIM/Privacy Officer,department staff, physicians, and other departments is necessary for the success of this role. Directs and delegates responsibility as needed for HIM staff, OSHPD, The Joint Commission and other government reporting. Develops and implement process improvement and quality management plans as well as plan and implement compliance task force issues as required. Attend, schedule and participate in required Hospital meetings and functions. Gather, report and present information as needed to committees, administration, and outside agencies, provide in-service and education to staff and other Hospital employees. 1. Education: Bachelor#s degree required. Master#s degree preferred. 2. Licensure: Position requires RHIA Registration from the American Health Information Management Association OR RHIT Registration from the American Health Information Management Association. 3. Experience/Knowledge: A minimum of ten (10) years# experience in Health Information Management in an acute care hospital setting. Knowledge of all current aspects of health information management; working knowledge of ICD-10 and HIPAA privacy compliance; regulatory standards and laws associated with acute care facilities and integrated health care delivery systems. 4. Management Skills # Budgetary preparation, monitoring and management # Human Resources practices such as recruitment and employee relations # Management and supervisory theories, principles, practices, techniques and methods 5. Interpersonal Skills: # Communicate effectively both orally and in writing to diverse groups and individuals Work effectively with administration, employees and medical staff # Identify and analyze complex departmental (and patient care) issues # Make independent decisions and provide counsel and advice to administration, employees and medical staff # Exercise good judgement and tact in providing leadership, guidance and assistance 6.
