Job Description:

Under the leadership of the department director, department assistant director, and security supervisor, the K-9 Handler/Security Officer is a specialty position requiring the ability to combine security and safety knowledge with the handling of a highly trained canine to accomplish the security mission for the hospital. The position is highly visible with officer and canine to establish a deterrent to criminal activity and anti-social behavior of person(s) while on the hospital premises. The K-9 Handler/Security Officer must be able to handle his assigned canine in all circumstances and use the position not only as a deterrent but also as a positive role in fostering good community relations. The K-9 Handler/Security Officer will also be responsible for the performance of all major duties of a regular Security Officer including, but not limited to, thorough patrols, key access, security stand-bys, escorts, storage and disposition of patient valuables and lost & found items, investigations, parking issues, and the completion of thorough logs.

Experience:

Experience in security in the healthcare environment or law enforcement is preferred. Experience in K-9 handling and work is preferred. Ability to keep, maintain, care for, and handle a trained security/police K-9 is required. Must demonstrate functional word processing and computer skills.

Education:

High school diploma, G.E.D. or combination of education and relevant work experience preferred.

Licensure/Certifications:

Must possess a valid California driver's license. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required. Must take and pass the IAHSS Basic Certification Exam within the first 180 days of hire/transfer. The current Montage Health authorized crisis prevention/aggressive behavior management program must be completed within the first 180 days of hire. Must obtain a valid California Guard Card within 4 months of hire.

Other:

In addition to the above CA driver's license, the following are required: An acceptable driving record of three points or less and participation in the DMV pull-notice program.
