Job Overview:The Commodity Sales Manager (CSM- Business Development) will direct, coordinate, monitor and manage the movement of product from grower and vendor sources. (CSM- Business Development) will manage their commodities to maximize sales and gross profit to our growing customer base and to maximize profitability in-line with company vision and values. The Commodity Sales Manager, Business Development will ultimately be responsible for the timely and efficient service of new customers for their respective commodities while maximizing profitability.Responsibilities & Duties: - - - - - - - - - -Manage commodity Sales program of Coastal vegetables, Lettuce/Leafy Greens, Brassicas, Snap & Snow Peas, Celery, and various specialty vegetables. - - - - - - - - -Works with account managers to set pricing for, confirm volume and execute on ad, contract and promotional commitments for their respective commodities. - - - - - - - - -Develop accurate daily commodity supply forecasts and ensures prompt and efficient communication of supply from growers and vendors for their commodity. - - - - - - - - -Ability to react to changes forecast supply and demand in 3-day, 7-day, and 60-day increments for the each of commodities. - - - - - - - - -Develop and manage customer base outside of our current customer portfolio for commodity goods. - - - - - - - - -Ability to understand and learn product-specific agronomics. - - - - - - - - -Tracks USDA market news by commodity to leverage contractual agreements to maximize profits. - - - - - - - - -Is accountable for and drives commodity sales goals and profitability. - - - - - - - - -Ensures that all product in their line of commodities is sold. - - - - - - - - -Works with other departments to maximize returns to grower partners and sales of purchased product. - - - - - - - - -Assists to improve the effectiveness of the team and company. - - - - - - - - -Monitors and analyzes inventories to determine how to increase turns, reduce waste, and optimize our Customer Driven mission. - - - - - - - - -Manages activities related to strategic or tactical purchasing, inventory level planning and warehousing to maximize profit opportunities regardless of market volatility. - - - - - - - - -Work with Sales, Operations and Transportation to develop a plan to facilitate efficient transitions from growing regions and warehouses. - - - - - - - - -Assists in the development and implementation of marketing plans as needed. - - - - - - - - -Assists in helping control expenses to meet budget guidelines. - - - - - - - - -Coordinate daily pack style plan with Field Ops and Commodity Coordinators. - - - - - - - - -Coordinate daily purchases for responsible products with Supply Chain Coordinator and Commodity Coordinators. - - - - - - - - -Accountable for maximizing customer specific budgeted revenue and profit objectives.Qualifications:Required:

  • Preferred Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Food Science, Agriculture, and or related field.
  • Valid California Driver License and clean record.
  • 5 years of commodity sales experience in fresh produce; Brassicas, Leafy Greens, Peas, Beans, & celery.
  • Working knowledge of commodity varieties, variety specific attributes, growing regions including homegrown and imports and a willingness for continuous learning.
  • Understanding of customer and market dynamics and unique requirements of fresh produce industry.
  • Understand and learn product-specific agronomics.
  • Ability and willingness to ability to travel 25% of internationally/domestically, short-term business professional travel.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite -
  • Experience with enterprise software solutions and large complex organizations.
  • Ability to occasionally lift 50 pounds. Must stand for long extended periods of time.
  • Environmental exposure-seasonal outdoor temperatures. -Preferred: - - - - - - - - - -Knowledge and experience in agricultural research- fresh produce. - - - - - - - - -Strong negotiation and business acumen skills related to sourcing and obtaining new business. - - - - - - - - -Detail oriented with strong analytical and problem solving-skills. - - - - - - - - -Extensive experience in all aspects of Vendor Relationship Management. - - - - - - - - -Must have excellent organizational skills to work effectively with all levels of management - - - - - - - - -Proactive, ability to meet aggressive deadline and maintain strong internal customer focus. - - - - - - - - -Ability to work with key stakeholders and manage multiple projects across the enterprise, including growers and customers. - - - - - - - - -Collaborative and solutions-driven problem solver - - - - - - - - -Demonstrate record of cost reduction and implementing commodity strategies resulting in significant financial and operational benefit for the organization. - - - - - - - - -Bilingual in Spanish -Other Required:
    • Adhere to Company Food Safety Requirements in selecting vendor sources.
    • Must follow all instruction related to Food Safety, Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Agricultural Practices and HACCP programs.
    • Must report to the Director of Food Safety or their direct supervisor any problem or irregular situation related to food safety.
